MEDTASKER
CLINICAL
MANAGEMENT APP

Cloud-based desktop, mobile, and tablet clinical flow management

application

Role:

Principal Product Designer and researcher

GOAL

The goals of this project are to streamline task management and communication across various clinical and non-clinical flows in hospitals and allied health settings. The specific focus is on addressing complications arising from poor data handling at the source level, minimizing design and development debt, and improving overall efficiency.

CHALLENGE

User-side concerns include general notification fatigue and limited visibility over staff availability and team capacity in high-stress environments, where time-sensitive decisions need to be made. Technical challenges involve integrating with various databases and third-party applications, ensuring patient and data security, and working within hospital firewalls. Desired outcomes include automating task flows, creating and sending clinical and non-clinical tasks for different personas, and facilitating easy and efficient task management with integrated hospital staff and patient databases. Other features include configurable task types and locations to reduce cognitive overload, managing individual and team tasks based on factors like team, location, urgency, and creation date, and post-task actions such as acknowledgment, completion, handover, forwarding, and adding events. Maintaining task history logs for clinical trial purposes and incorporating chat functionality are also important. Managing user profiles with assigned teams, campuses, and availability status is crucial.

RESEARCH METHOD

To achieve these objectives, the following research methods will be employed:

  • Quantitative and Qualitative Research: Surveys and interviews to gather insights into user preferences, pain points, and communication needs.

  • Stakeholder Interviews: Engaging with healthcare professionals and administrators to understand their requirements and challenges.

  • Problem Discovery Workshop: Workshops involving techniques such as priority matrix, task analysis, persona development, and card sorting to identify and prioritize design challenges.

  • Competitor Analysis: Analyzing existing solutions in the market to identify best practices and areas for improvement.

  • User Interviews: In-depth interviews with users to understand their workflows, challenges, and communication needs in clinical and non-clinical settings.

  • Affinity Mapping: Organizing research findings and insights into themes and patterns to identify common user needs and pain points.

  • Usability Testing: Conducting moderated and unmoderated tests to evaluate the effectiveness and ease of use of the solution.

  • Heatmap Analysis: Using heatmap analysis to understand user interaction patterns and identify areas of interest or potential usability issues.

  • Expert Review: Engaging domain experts to provide feedback and recommendations on the solution design.

  • Market Analysis: Analyzing the healthcare market landscape, trends, and user expectations to inform design decisions.

  • Customer Journeys: Mapping out user journeys across clinical and non-clinical flows to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.
